Who We Are

Ana and Angie met during their geophysics PhD programs at Stanford University. Sharing the highs and lows of grad school (and a tiny windowless office) was a bonding experience unlike any other. They’re now embarking on a new adventure, the 2021 Rebelle Rally, hoping to show the world that women really can do anything they put their minds towards.

Dr. Angie Lux

Angie is a seismologist working on the ShakeAlert West Coast Earthquake Early Warning system (find out more about her work here). For as long as she can remember she has enjoyed exploring this big, beautiful world via trail running, hiking, camping, backpacking, and back-country exploring. A series of events following a recent solo camping trip led her to discover the Rebelle Rally and she decided that this was to be her next big adventure! Some of her previous/ongoing adventures include installing low-cost seismic sensors in Chile and New Zealand following major earthquakes, jamming for her local roller derby team, and raising three awesome kids.

Dr. Ana Aguiar

Ana is a seismologist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (a bit about it here). She is originally from Costa Rica, where she discovered her love for science and the outdoors. Ana has had a passion for world travel since she was young, and some recent 4x4 trips in Morocco and Bolivia (as a passenger) inspired her desire to follow roads unpaved and far less traveled. When her teammate Angie originally suggested entering the Rebelle Rally, she thought it was the perfect step to take it to the next level and learn how to plan and execute a 4x4 trip. Just like Angie, this will be her first time driving and navigating but she can’t wait to get going!

Athena

Athena

Athena is Angie’s other baby, a 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro-4x. This lady has been on many adventures, but nothing quite like the Rebelle. We can’t wait to see how she does.
